诡异经济学 (FREAKONOMICS)

最近都没看到什么好看的电影。反而是这本书带给我不少乐趣。几个午餐的时间就读完了，很过瘾。摘录其中几个让我笑出声来，或是惊讶地嘴巴成O型的文字片段：

An office is more honest when the employees like their boss and their work...employees further up the corporate ladder cheat more than those down below...perhaps cheating was how they got to be executives.
(My word: 从个人经历来看，有些道理。)

A moral question: could any man resist the temptation of evil if he knew his acts could not be witnessed?

Information is the currency of the Internet. As a medium, the Internet is brilliantly efficient as shifting information from the hands of those who have it into the hands of those who do not...Experts depend on the fact that you don't have the information they do. Or that you are so befuddled by the complexity of their operation that you wouldn't know what to do with the information if you had it. Or that you are so in awe of their expertise that you wouldn't dare challenge them.
(My word: 完全赞同。又再次庆幸生在这个互联网时代。)

A doctor may have the same economic incentive as a car sales man or a funeral director or a mutual fund manager.
(My word: 不过医生的责任还是大很多。毕竟人命关天。)

So how did the gang work? An awful lot like most American businesses, actuallyu, though perhaps none more so that McDonald's. In fact, if you were to hold a McDonal's organizatonal chart and a Black Disciples org chart side by side, you could hardly tell the difference.
(My word: 各行各业都需要出类拔萃的管理者。连黑社会都不例外。)

The rules of a tournament are straightforward. You must start at the bottom to have a shot at the top. You must be willing to work long and hard at substandard wages. In order to advance in the tournament, you must prove yourself not merely above average but spectacular. And finally, once you come to the sad realization that you will never make it to the top, you will quit the tournament.

When a woman does not want to have a child, she usually has good reason...childhood poverty and a single-parent household are among the strongest predictors that a child will have a criminal future...low maternal education is the single most powerful factor leading to criminality.
(My word: 反堕胎的确是违背了经济学原理。)

According to a study, if DeShawn Williams and Jake Williams sent identical resumes to the same employer, Jake Williams would be more likely to get a callback. The implication is that black-sounding names carry an economidc penalty.
